Samuel Paige Mears, 74, passed away Friday, June 4, 2010 at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury, with his family by his side.
Born in Assawoman, Va. on March 21, 1936, he was the son of the late Leonard A. Mears and Corvilla D. Mears.
Paige graduated from Atlantic High School in Oak Hall, Va. and Goldy Beacon in Wilmington, DE. He worked up until his death, at Outten Brothers Furniture, for 54 years. He was an expert on furniture construction and quality of it. He shared this knowledge with his many customers. Customers, now have their children and grandchildren coming into the store, asking for him. He believed in treating his customers with great care and respect. Paige had many friends and it showed, everywhere he went. He always looked out for others.
Paige loved to travel throughout the southern states, by car. He also loved crossword puzzles, war movies, going to military air museums, playing cards, trains, music and NASCAR.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Shirley Mears, whom he shared his birthdays with; a daughter, Pamela Beach and her husband, Marshall of Hebron; two very special grandchildren, Heather West and her husband, Rob of Salisbury; Marshall “Buddy” Beach, Jr. of Hebron; one brother, Donald Mears and his wife, Earline of Delmar; two nephews, Donnie Mears of Salisbury and Ricky Mears of Delmar; two nieces, Cindy Mears of Salisbury and Nina Faye Smith of Paducah, Ky; one very dear friend, Larry Adkins of Delmar; his special cats, Sam, Tom and Cookie.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Lucille Smith.
A funeral service will be held Friday at 11:00 a.m. at Bounds Funeral Home in Salisbury with the Rev. Todd Wm. Kissam officiating, along with Rev. J. Harvey Dixon. Friends may call Thursday evening from 7 – 9 p.m., and also one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Downing Cemetery in Oak Hall, Va. A reception will follow the return from Oak Hall at the home of Paige Mears from 5 – 7 p.m.
